Oleanna

Designer Concept:

David Mamet’s Oleanna is a two-character play about the power struggle between a university professor and one of his female students, who accuses him of sexual exploitation and, by doing so, spoils his chances of being accorded tenure.

The design of the play will be based around the College Professors.  The office resembles his life, which before the show begins is seemingly very well put together and organized.  As the student enters it would seem that the different objects become more disorganized, books are turned over, the blinds in the room close and become disheveled.  As his life becomes more chaotic the environment changes to relate to the chaos inside his mind.  The acting space is set up to where the person behind the desk holds the power, as the actors engage in conflict, the idea is that they constantly battle for power.
